Medium Patches Game Unlimited is the everyday Patches board — the one most people picture when they say "a Patches puzzle." Roughly half the clues still show both shape and size; the rest show only a shape (Square, Wide or Tall) with no number. Every clue keeps its shape, so what you recover from the geometry around it is how big the patch is. With no daily cap you can keep pulling fresh Medium boards at any of the three grid sizes.
What makes Medium boards medium
A shape-only clue tells you the proportions of its patch but not its size: you know it is, say, Wide, but you have to work out how far it stretches and how tall it is. The numbered clues around it are your anchors. Place those first, and the cells they leave over usually pin down each shape-only patch. Medium boards never need more than that: the solver only accepts a Medium board it can finish with its two simplest techniques, a clue with only one possible rectangle and a cell only one clue can reach.
Tips for Medium Patches
When a shape-only Wide or Tall clue sits on an edge, try the full strip first: check whether the full-length strip along that edge works. Then budget the area. Count the empty cells in the region the clue shares with its neighbors, subtract the numbered patches you already know, and what is left is the shape-only patch's size. When two clues compete for the same cells, the one with less freedom usually wins, so place it first.
